Henry Morehouse

Purchased on 17 April 1827 from Peter Haight and his wife Adah for $150 and consisting of 50 acres, not far west of his brother Isaac's land in the Cohocton valley. • Court: the probate of his mother's will, 1845, Cohocton, Steuben, NY. Case Number 7440, Book 3-A, Page 425. • Occupation: farmer, 1820/1850, Cohocton, Steuben, NY. The 1835 Census describes his farm as consisting of 40 acres of improved land with 4 cattle, 3 horses, 15 sheep, and 7 hogs. During the preceding year they had produced 20 yards of fulled cloth, 45 yards of unfulled wool and flannel, and 50 yards of linen or cotton fabric. Neighbors included Aaron Watkins and Benjamin Saxton. • Census, 1820/1865, Cohocton, Steuben, NY. Noted every 5 to 10 years. In 1865 he is listed in the Wayland Census. • Census, 1855, Cohocton, Steuben, NY. Listed on same page with his wife and sons George and Silas. • Cemetery: New Clearview Cemetery, 1871, North Cohocton, Steuben, NY. • Probate, 1871, Wayland, Steuben, NY. Case Number 7050, Book 11, Page 361. Charles B., Clark, George W., Maranda, Martin M., and Silas Morehouse are named. Henry married Cynthia Montgomery on Dec 28, 1820. (Cynthia Montgomery was born about 1801 and was buried in North Cohocton, Steuben, NY.) |
