• History, 1066 onward, England. One account of Odell history says that the first Odell was Walter Flendrensis, brother or Matilda of Flanders, wife of William the Conquerer, and came with him to England in 1066. He must have visited before that time because there is some account of his having reported from there before the conquest. In 1086, the Conquerer made him the first Baron of Odell, supposedly because of distinguished military service in the Conquest. The Barony was located in Buck, England, the county seat of which was Woodhill, and his descendents were called Barons of Odell and were related closely to William the Norman, Alfred the Great, Edward II, and Henry VIII. The historic Odell Castle stands on the bank of the River Quse, near the ancient village of Odell in Bedforshire, England.
